Overcoming Adversities

On February 22, 2020, boxing fans everywhere stood on their feet in living rooms and sports bars and screamed at the t.v. ‘s that streamed one of the biggest heavyweight fights of the past 20 years. Wow, that was intense!

In case you missed it, the one-sided fight occurred in Las Vegas between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Fury was a dominating force that took the undefeated champion from victory to defeat in their second go in the ring.

Fury and Wilder fought in 2018 when the Bronze Bomber(Wilder) won by a controversial split draw against the Gypsy King(Fury). Fury wanted his comeuppance, and the universe provided it.

In the second match, Fury changed up his game and fought with an aggressive physical and mental game plan. He came in playing “Crazy” by Patsy Cline. He was ready to outplay Wilder with a trip on the crazy train and an ass-kicking adventure that would surely put Wilder down for the count. He went as far as to appear to be licking the blood off Wilder’s neck. Savage but gross. Fury won by a TKO when Wilder’s corner threw in the towel to save his life.

The Irish Traveler returned from weight gain, drug abuse, and mental health issues. This shows that no matter your circumstances, if you achieve the proper mental fortitude, you can go from winner to loser and back to winner all over again.

Let’s face it. We can only be on top sometimes, and how we pick ourselves back up and accomplish the goals we set for ourselves matters. Amid his downward spiral, he was able to switch up his thinking and put into place a plan to lose weight, get stronger, and be a champion. I know everyone needs that at some point.

So how can you apply this fight to your life, business, personal relationships, etc.? You sacrifice! You practice self-care and love! You train yourself to become a world-class fighter! You have to change your thinking and actions to do these things.

Every self-help guru will tell you to dream it is to achieve it. That’s true to an extent. But you will be a daydreamer if you only desire it without the action. Put your thoughts into practice, and that’s how you “achieve it!”

Here are some ideas to change your thinking and put into the planning:

  • Get proper rest
  • Eat properly
  • Exercise
  • Write down some goals and give them a date of accomplishment
  • Before you go to bed every night, write down what you need to do the following day
  • In the morning, write down your goals again
  • Check your list and check it off as you complete it. This will give you a sense of achievement
  • Be thankful for your life. You’re here for a reason.

Always try to be a fighter, a winner, a champion. Like Tyson Fury, you can knock out the opponent and lick their necks. Metaphorically speaking, that is. You can come in singing “Crazy” and go out singing “American Pie.”

Through it all, keep this in mind: If you don’t reach your goals, be kind to yourself. Just readjust the end date!
